Ahoy explains: Airline rules de-coded – Pt.1 Sequencing

airline ticketing rules

Ticket Rule: IF ANY OF THE COUPONS NOT USED IN THE SEQUENCE SHOWN ON THE TICKET REFUND OF UNUSED SEGMENTS AND YQ TAXES IS NOT PERMITTED.

What in the world does this mean?!…?

If you have A-B return flight, and you miss the A-B, you will
1. not be eligible to take the B-A flight
2. not receive a refund for any of the ticket (except perhaps 3rd party taxes)
3. should check if your A-B flight is changeable after departure
4. if changeable after departure, you should be able to take the next flight out on same airline. No-show fees and change penalties may be added.

For tickets with this “sequencing” rule, if you are able to cancel or change your ticket more than 2-4 hrs before the flight, you will be permitted a change (so long as the A-B still happens before the B-A) and not lose the entire ticket.
