After 3 years of working between Africa and Europe I was really tired of the travel hassle. And for someone who loves travel as much as I do, I thought it was an interesting problem to solve. I started by asking some frequent travellers I knew, if they had experienced some of these same headaches (they had). So I told them that if anything travel related was too hard or time consuming to do themselves, they could just send me a Whatsapp and I’d fix it.
After about 3-4 months, 90-95% of all Whatsapps had something to do with flights, And after having booked, changed, upgraded, or cancelled a couple thousand flights, on different airlines’ sites, online booking engines, and phone lines, I had a pretty good idea of what I thought Ahoy shouldn’t be.
With a focus on flight bookings, my co-founders and myself went ahead and started creating a product that could help frequent travellers plan & complete their trips with better overview, transparency, and ease.
We still have a lot we can do to make Ahoy even better. But, after more than a year, when I see that those first users are still with us, it is a great feeling, and motivates the whole team to make sure that every new feature and every interaction does just one thing: make frequent travellers’ lives simpler.
